For vehicles with medium and long wheelbases, axial retarders are installed in the driveline, between the gearbox and the axle.

The retarder is attached to the chassis using rubber mounts and serves as a driveline carrier bearing.

Its location complies with standards for balancing and universal joint cancellation so as to ensure proper operation of the drive shaft.
